About Me
It's the wanting to know that makes us matter. My first tentative steps on stage as an 11-year-old involved hiding behind adults and random pieces of scenery. While I was afraid of the spotlight, I was fascinated by theatre and the new, immediate form of storytelling it provided.
As a freshman in college, the intellectual component of the stage exhilarated me in a way acting never had. A freshman theatre class introduced me to the integrated world of theatre history and script analysis. I learned how cultural context enriches the world of a play. I discovered that plays can be read and analyzed like literature. Even more, analysis shapes production, helping to articulate the message of the play. That is when a professor recommended I try dramaturgy. I quickly realized this field was perfect for me. Everything I read, see, and live proves pertinent in some way on a future production. Since that initial discovery, I have found my voice as an artistic contributer in a rehearsal room, worked with playwrights as they created new worlds, and dialogued with patrons about work. As I continue on my path as a dramaturg I only grow in my passion for production dramaturgy, new play development, and engagement. |
